Wrongful Dismissal Lawsuit Receives Reply from Manitoba Casino

After a South Beach Casino and Resort employee filed a wrongful dismissal complaint after being fired in July of this year, the casino has denied the claims made by ex-employee Morin.

The defendant filed on December 9, and claimed they were let go from the casino, where they had been employed since 2022, after raising concerns of illegal drugs entering the casino. Morin believes the workplace harassment claim that led to his dismissal was made in retaliation for reporting the incident to management.

The response statement filed by the casino read “At the time of his termination, the plaintiff was provided no additional details as to what alleged ‘unwelcome gestures and contact’ were being referenced, nor was the plaintiff provided a copy of the complaint or given any opportunity to respond to the serious allegations of harassment.”

This Manitoba land-based casino is moving for the lawsuit to be dismissed, and so far neither claims have been tested in court.

Snuneymuxw First Nation Announces Purchase of Coquitlam Casino, its Fifth in 2025

The First Nation on Vancouver Island has agreed to purchase the Coquitlam Casino, British Columbia, which the Great Canadia Casino Vancouver owned.

According to Mike Wyse, Chief of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, the addition of the casino will mark the next step for the nation towards “economic self-determination,” strengthening its financial independence and revitalizing its economy.

Regarding the revenue from the casino, Wyse said at a press conference, “We’ve got a lot of opportunities. Housing and health and wellness is No. 1 for sure. You know, we want to house our people.”

Ian Thompson, CEO of Petroglyph Development Group, the nation’s economic branch, discussed how the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver is an economic driver of the Coquitlam economy, and he hopes the acquisition will continue to benefit the economy.

The closing of the transaction is currently subject to third-party and regulatory approvals, as well as customary conditions.

DAZN Sports Streaming Readying for Canada Launch in Early 2026

DAZN, a sports streaming service and sportsbook, is currently preparing to launch its sportsbook, DAZN Bet, in Canada, with its Ontario launch expected in the first quarter of 2026, according to Canadian Gaming Business.

The DAZN Sportsbook has been launching across Europe since 2022, in countries such as the UK, Germany, and Italy, and its Canadian launch will mark its first entry into North America.

In preparation for its launch, DAZN has already trademarked DAZN Bet in Canada and is currently recruiting a country manager to lead its operations.

The move into the Canadian market comes after DAZN has faced significant annual losses. Its entry into Canada’s lower-tax market will be a change for the company, as it currently faces strict regulatory conditions and higher tax rates across Europe.

DAZN’s streaming platform is currently available in over 200 countries through its website, mobile app, and smart TVs, as well as on Amazon Prime and FuboTV as a channel.

Under its license, Canadian residents can access the NFL, European soccer, UFC boxing, and more, as well as English Premier League Soccer through its FuboTV partnership.
